Family of Rev. Samuel WHITMAN (35) & Sarah STODDARD

145. Rev. Elnathan WHITMAN.[4] Born on 12 Jan 1709 in Farmington. Elnathan died on 4 Mar 1777, he was 68. Education: Graduated Yale College 1726.

Epitaph:
ELNATHAN WHITMAN
Pastor of the second Church of Christ in Hartford and one of the Fellows of the corporation of Yale College, who departed this life on the 4th day of March AD 1777 in the 69th year of his age and 44th of his ministry;
Endowed with superior natural abilities and good literary acquirements, He was still more distinguished for his unaffected Piety, primitive simplicity of manners and true Christian Benevolence. He closed a life spent in the service of his Creator, in humble confidence of eternal happiness through the merits of the Saviour.

Elnathan married Abigail STANLEY[4], daughter of Col. Nathaniel STANLEY & Anna WHITING. Born on 14 Jul 1719. Abigail died in Nov 1795, she was 76.

146. Solomon WHITMAN.[4] Born on 20 Apr 1710 in Farmington. Solomon died on 13 Sep 1803, he was 93.

Settled on a portion of the homestead, he learned the trade of shoemaker but apparently never followed it.
Though not a college graduate, he was well educated and deeply interested in all literary matters; was appointed in early life a magistrate by the colonial government and was honored by the inhabitants of his native town with offices of every grade in their power to bestow.:

First Judge appointed to the Probate Court of the Farmington District
Town Clerk (at age 92

He is said to have celebrated his 90th birthday by making a pair of shoes.
His death was said to have been caused by over-fatigue in settling a fence boundary dispute between two brothers.
He lived to be 93.


On 17 Dec 1736 when Solomon was 26, he first married Susanna COLE[4]. Born in 1715 in Farmington. Susanna died on 19 Mar 1772, she was 57.

On 19 Nov 1772 when Solomon was 62, he second married Ruth HOOKER[4], daughter of John HOOKER & Abigail STANLEY. Born on 16 Apr 1708. Ruth died on 18 Sep 1777, she was 69.

Widow of Ashael Strong

On 30 Jul 1778 when Solomon was 68, he third married Ruth HART[4], daughter of Thomas HART & Mary THOMSON. Born on 16 Apr 1708. Ruth died on 20 Feb 1779, she was 70.

Widow of William Wadsworth

147. Eunice WHITMAN.[4] Born on 24 Feb 1712.

Eunice married Col. John STRONG[4], son of Ashael STRONG & Margaret HART. Born on 4 Mar 1705 in Farmington, CT. John died on 2 Feb 1777, he was 71.

He was a farmer residing in Farmington; was elected Justice of the Peace, 1768, and an influential man of the town. Death date unknown.

148. Dea. John WHITMAN.[4] Born on 23 Dec 1713. John died on 10 Jul 1800, he was 86.

On 20 Feb 1738 when John was 24, he first married Abigail PANTRY[4], daughter of John PANTRY, in West Hartford, CT. Born on 12 Mar 1712 in (baptized). Abigail died on 19 Feb 1765, she was 52.

149. Dr. Samuel WHITMAN.[4] Born on 13 Jan 1716. Samuel died on 4 Dec 1751, he was 35.

Graduated Yale College 1735; settled in Farmington, CT where he died unmarried

150. Sarah WHITMAN.[4] Born on 12 Mar 1718. Sarah died on 24 Mar 1808, she was 90.

On 4 Jul 1744 when Sarah was 26, she married Rev. John TRUMBALL[4]. Born in 1714 in Westbury, CT. John died on 13 Dec 1787, he was 73.

They had the following children:
